The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, today addressed the 6th China International Forum on Work Safety. The forum participants included international labour officials, health and safety policy experts and practitioners.
“Canadians know the importance of health and safety protection and that our whole economy benefits from safe workplaces,” said Minister Raitt. “The Government of Canada is pleased to have participated in the China International Forum on Work Safety. The insights gained today will help us to better address workplace health and safety concerns.”
Minister Raitt also met with Mr. Yang Dongliang, Minister for the State Administration of Work Safety, to discuss collaboration on occupational health and safety issues. This meeting provided a basis for future work under the Memorandum of Understanding on occupational health and safety, which was signed with China’s State Administration of Work Safety earlier this year. The Memorandum of Understanding provides Canada and China with a framework for sharing information and best practices that benefit both countries.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws cover industrial relations, health and safety, as well as employment standards, and apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
