As part of its new workplace safety strategy announced on March 20, the Government of Nova Scotia has partnered with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) to provide Nova Scotia citizens free access to CCOHS’ e-learning courses on topics of occupational health and safety.
“CCOHS applauds the steps undertaken by the Government of Nova Scotia and the Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia in fostering a culture of worker safety and prevention in their province,” said Steve Horvath, President and CEO, at the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety. “In addition to our many free resources, including telephone and email Inquiries service, hundreds of fact sheets, articles and podcasts, CCOHS is pleased that workers in Nova Scotia will have access to a variety of free e-learning courses, as well.”
Under the agreement, there are over 60 free e-learning courses that Nova Scotians can choose from. Topics include: Confined Space Management, Hazard Identification, Assessment & Control, Ladder Safety, Manual Materials Handling, Emergency Response Planning and Stress in the Workplace.
CCOHS courses are unique in that they are developed by subject specialists in the field, and reviewed by representatives from labour, employers and government to ensure the content and approach are unbiased and credible.
